Skin and Hair; what is it?
Skin is the largest organ we have, as it covers the whole of our body, our skin protects us from everything on the outside of our bodies and on the inside the network of muscles, bone, nerves, blood vessels and everything else.
Our skin is covered with hair; only the soles of our feet, eyelids, lips and the palms of our hands don’t grow hair. Hair grows much quicker during the summer months than it does in the winter, and faster during the day than at night.
The amount of hair we grow across our skin varies considerably between individuals, there is also a difference in our natural hair colour, and this is called the pigment or melanin. Within humans, darker skin and darker hair have higher amounts then those with lighter or more fair skin or hair colour.
The laser technology targets and destroys the pigment to permanently stop the hair from re-growing.

Procedure
How it works
Here at ANUU Clinic use an Intense Pulsed Light system which release a precise pulse of filtered light that is absorbed by melanin, the pigment in hair. This heats up the hair and destroys the cells responsible for hair growth, due to this the cells no longer grow hair.
Hair can be removed from all parts of the body, including arms, legs, face, bikini line, back and chest.
The process
One of the great benefit of IPL hair removal is that shaving the hair is mandatory!
Firstly we need to do a skin test to ensure you are suitable for the procedure, this skin test is free of charge and is carried out in the ANUU Clinic.
Treatments can take as little as 10 minutes and up to one hour depending on area being treated, the light pulse will be directed onto the skin and moved across the area, the treatment sensation varies but is often described a ‘flick of an elastic band’.
Only hair that is actively growing is affected therefore multiple treatments are needed. Treatments are conducted every 3 to 8 weeks depending on the area being treated until a good result is seen. The number of treatments varies, although typically 6 or more are needed for optimum results.
The dead hairs shed after 1 to three weeks as the epidermis renews. During this period the hairs will seem to grow as the new epidermis pushes them out.
ANUU Clinic offers a treatment that can permanently reduce unwanted hair IPL treatments and will leave you skin feeling smooth, soft and free from ingrown hairs.
Side effects
The skin may be red immediately after treatment and the hair follicles may be swollen and raised but this usually subsides with a few hours.
Adverse reactions are rare but may include a small blister or temporary lightening or darkening of the skin.

Suitability
Are you suitable for this procedure?
This treatment is suitable for both men and women. Prior to any treatment a consultation will identify your goals and expectations and will give you an explanation of the treatment process and the likely outcomes. A test patch to confirm suitability for treatment will follow this.
The best results are achieved with people who have lighter skin and darker hair. Dark hair is more easily treated as it has a high concentration of melanin. Fair hair however contains less melanin and is harder to treat. Grey/white hair has no melanin so is not suitable for treatment.
Contraindication to treatment
Grey/white hair has no melanin so is not suitable for treatment.
Tanning and laser/IPL hair removal are not compatible.
If you suffer with epileptic fits, or you pregnant
